A library and community center for the tribal community of Tensara village in Gumla district Jharkhand.

The building functions as a community library and community centre. It is a hub for the local tribal youth where they can read, learn computers and host community events.

We did a thorough research of the local building materials, and building traditions of Jharkhand. The simple design celebrates the local aesthetics and offers something new in form of building technologies to the region.

Locally available stone columns bear the structural weight of the building, while the walling materials are adobe bricks produced on site. The roof is a combination of flat domes, vaults and asymmetrical jack arches.

The front two columns celebrate the local crafts of Jharkhand where one is inspired by the traditional grinding stones, and other, completely made of Dokra metal craft.

Designer Rajeev Sethi of Asian Heritage Foundation extensively supported the design both as a client and mentor.

The project is done in collaboration with Aagaur which brought with itself an expertise in construction and project management.
